Overview Road Map

Program Introduction

Mathematics is extremely important in today's scientific and technological breakthroughs. Its presence is unavoidable in multidisciplinary and social sciences. Due to the exponential growth of science and technology around the world over the last few decades, mathematics has become a focal and important research field.

The PhD program in mathematics is meant to improve knowledge and abilities in specialized technical areas while also encouraging research interest and activities in current dimensions. Fluid dynamics, Canonical Number Systems, computational approaches for solving differential equations, computer simulation and modeling, and fuzzy algebra are all frequently employed in current dimensions such as physiology, industry, biology, and aeronautics.

Mathematics has emerged as one of Pakistan's and the world's most important research areas. Applied mathematicians are in high demand in the public and commercial sectors, research organizations, and enterprises due to their applications and utility in basic sciences and other disciplines. The PhD program provides scholars with the best all-around abilities and information they'll need to pursue their goals.

Program Details

  • Duration: 3-7 Years
  • Entry Requirements: MS/MPhil degree in relevant education from a recognized university with 3.00 CGPA out of 4.00 CGPA
  • GRE/GAT (General/Subject) passed with minimum score 60%
  • Program Type: Evening

Program Brief

A PhD in Mathematics is available through UMT's Knowledge Unit of Science (KUSc). The program assists academics in researching novel methodologies, algorithms, and computational analyses, with a focus on applications in several fields. Classes are usually held in the evenings for the convenience of working students. For the completion of PhD theses, the school provides highly trained PhD supervisors.

The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program is aimed to help students gain knowledge and research skills in a variety of applied and pure mathematics fields. This program's dissertation component allows candidates to solve very complex, innovative challenges in their field of interest. Graduates of this programs are employed by universities and other research institutions. The candidates for this degree program can specialize in Algebraic Number Theory, Graph Theory, Fluid dynamics, computational Fluid Dynamics, Heat and mass transfer analysis, Computational Mathematics, Fuzzy Algebra, Cryptography, Computational Analysis, Differential Equations etc.

Program Mission Statement

PhD programs are aimed to enhance knowledge and abilities in specialized technical fields while also encouraging research interest and activities in current aspects. Fluid dynamics, computational methods for solving differential equations, computer simulation and modeling, and fuzzy algebra are all frequently utilized and linked to current dimensions like physiology, industry, biology, aerospace engineering, cryptography etc. The thesis component of this program provides the participant with an opportunity to apply the skills and knowledge acquired through the course-work in solving complex problems.

Program Structure

  • Elective Courses (18 credits) - These post graduate-level courses (700-level or above) allow the candidates to broaden his knowledge of the general discipline that they are working in.
  • Comprehensive Examination - All candidates are required to pass the PhD Comprehensive Exam during the second year of their coursework.
  • Research Proposal - The candidates are also required to prepare and defend a proposal of their intended research within 6-months of passing their Comprehensive Exam.
  • Dissertation (36 credits) - All candidates must produce a PhD thesis consisting of original research of high-impact. This is normally established by publishing the results in international journals of high repute.
  • Foreign Expert Evaluation - The PhD. Dissertation must be evaluated by at least two PhD. experts from technologically/academically advanced foreign countries in addition to local Committee members
  • Open defense - An open defense of Dissertation is essential part of PhD Program after positive evaluation.
  • Research Paper - Acceptance/publication of at least one research paper in an HEC approved “X” category journal is a requirement for the award of PhD. degree.
  • Plagiarism Test - The Plagiarism Test must be conducted on the Dissertation before its submission to the two foreign experts, as described below.
  • Copy of PhD Dissertation to HEC - A copy of PhD. Dissertation (both hard and soft) must be submitted to HEC for record in PhD. Country Directory and for attestation of the PhD degree by the HEC in future.

Career Prospects

Mathematics has emerged as one of Pakistan's and the world's most important research areas. Applied mathematicians are in high demand in the public and commercial sectors, research organizations, and enterprises due to their applications and utility in basic sciences and other disciplines. We hope the graduates will play a vital role by serving as well trained mathematician, system analyst and optimization analysts and other mathematics related jobs. PhD program prepares the students with best all-inclusive skills and knowledge they need to pursue the best career option in the most dynamic areas of modern science and technology. This program practice the students to understand the mathematical problem lying in the daily life system, model it and then solve it by using analytic and numerical technique. During the last few decades, the Mathematics has become the focal and grooming research area due to the exponential growth of science and technology all over the world and growing demand of professionals and researchers. The most outstanding career paths of MS/PhD students are teaching, research support or grant administration.
