Services and Facilities

Information Services and Facilities

The Library services include lending, reference, current awareness service, , on-line information retrieval, referral and in-depth research assistance, inter library loan, bibliography compilation, photocopying, document delivery and book bank.

Reference Desk 

The Reference/Help Desk is located at very visible and convenient location in the library and is staffed during scheduled library hours to provide patrons with in-depth and referral assistance

Lending /Borrowing Services

Library materials are borrowed and returned at the circulation desk that is located near the main entrance. Library materials on reserve, A/V materials, text books, periodicals, reference books, government publications, publications of World bodies, CDs are not be issued. 

Reservations of Books

You may reserve any book that has been borrowed by another patron/member. An e-mail notification will be sent to the person who has reserved the item. Reserved items will be held at circulation desk for 3 days, after which they will be shelved or may be issued to anyone else. Faculty may be given priority in this regard.

Inter library Loan(ILL)

UMT library has an arrangement with local libraries. In case an item is not available in the library collection, it can be arranged through ILL. Please contact Help Desk for further details or to avail this facility.

Document Delivery Services

The library has arrangements with leading Document Delivery Service providers. Any article not available in the library can be requested through this service.

Information Literacy and Orientation Sessions

Regular library orientation sessions are held to enhance information-handling skills of library users and also to increase the effectiveness of research. The service is available on individual and group basis. This program may also be offered at;

  • The request of faculty member
  • The start of each semester, the library offers an orientation session/tour for new participants

Classified Information

The library also extends Selective Dissemination of Information (SDI) service to the faculty and a select clientele.

Recommend/suggest a purchase

The library welcomes faculty, staff and participants to recommend any material, which can add value to our library collection. The requests will be reviewed and purchase would be made subject to approval and availability of funds.

Timings and Access

Except for certain designated official holidays, the library is open seven days a week from 0800 hrs to 1600 hrs for members with valid UMT Identification Card. The library remains closed on public holidays.

Current Awareness service

To update the patrons of LRC about the current affairs, LRC provide the service of current awareness so that they can become information literate about the current affairs.

Press Clipping

The news taken by the newspapers on different topics is shared among the faculty, staff and the students as a service of press clipping.

SMS alerts services

Learning Resource Center aims at providing the value added services to its faculty, staff and the students to meet their information needs and to utilize the LRC resources more effectively and efficiently. To promote and market its services and resources so that more faculty and staff members and students encouraged using these resources and services we have started the SMS alertsservice. Now you will get the updates about LRC on your mobile phones, simply your mobile phone will be your library.

Marketing services: LRC Bulletin and Brochure

Learning Resource Center aims at providing the value added services to its faculty, staff and the students to meet their information needs and to utilize the LRC resources more effectively and efficiently To promote and market its services and resources so that more faculty and staff members and students encouraged to use these resources and services we have started the marketing services of LRC. We are pleased to announce that we have developed the LRC Bulletin for the year 2013. The bulletin covers the news from Banking/ Finance, Business & Economics, Education, Energy Crises, International Relations, Internet/Telecom, Law, Politics / Democracy / Politicians of Pakistan, Religion, Sports, Tax, Terrorism, and Trade with the most discussed topics during the Year. The news in this bulletin is arranged alphabetically and provided with source of the English newspapers published within the country i.e The News, Dawn, Business Recorder, Express Tribune and The Nation

Ask A Librarian chat service

Learning Resource Center is providing every opportunity to facilitate you. We are pleased to announce that we are providing the virtual and ready reference service by developing our "Ask a Librarian" chat interface. Now if you have any query you can chat with your Librarian, I will be there to respond to your queries. First time you have to sign up in the Ask a Librarian chat interface then there is no need to login every time.It is simple in use. Ask a Librarian chat interface is added in our LRC webpage.

Learning Resource Center is pleased to know that our faculty members have their own publications, It is indeed the valuable addition to the organization and it should be appreciated, so please share with me your publications so that Incharge LRC on behalf of the organization appreciate and circulate your achievement within the campus, it will indeed result in the new initiatives resulting in the increase of the publications.

Research Support

Learning Resource Center (LRC) also organizes seminars, workshops, and trainings for UMT Sialkot comunity to support, academia, research, and life-long learning into the following areas.

  • Information seeking skill
  • How to utilize LRC resources and services
  • Research ethics and avoiding plagiarism
  • Plagiarism management using Turnitin

Social media services

Social media or web 2.0 plays a vital role in the development of any organization. The stronger social networking you have, the more popular you are. It is the platform by which the services provider and the services gainers can interact with each other and the feedback of the services can be taken by using this platform.
