The PHEC in collaboration with American Institute of Pakistan Studies (AIPS) Islamabad and University of Education had organized the Teaching Excellence Workshop (two-day training workshop held at the PHEC Staff Development Academy). Vice Chancellors/Deans from the Public Sector Universities of Punjab participated in the first day of the training workshop.
At the Inaugural Ceremony, Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC) Chairperson Dr Muhammad Nizamuddin emphasized on the absolute need for dialogue among the faculty members and students at universities to improve teaching practices.
The workshop was organized at the Staff Development Academy on 6th October’ 2017. The guest speaker Dr Caroline Clements, Executive Director, Center for Teaching Excellence, University of North Carolina, Wilmington, USA, who has a vast experience of over 20 years of teaching and research, delivered a comprehensive lecture. She talked about the need of Centre for Teaching Excellence, perceptions on faculty teaching, addressing faculty and student issues, increasing collaboration in teaching and research, increasing student’s motivation and engagement and evaluating students and teachers learning capacities.
Prof. Dr. Shahid Javed Butt, Director Academics, UMT-Sialkot Campus, actively participated in the workshop and shared with the participants as how to improve the quality in academia. He also exchanged his views on the aspect of 'Teaching Excellence' in Higher Education with PHEC Chairman, Prof Dr. Nizamuddin, Vice Chancellor University of Education, Professor Dr Rauf-e-Azam and the invited Guest Speaker, Prof. Dr. Caroline Clements, North Carolina University. More than 35 participants from various reputed private and public universities gathered in this academic forum and most of them were executing their role as Rector, Deans and Directors in Higher Education sector.
