University of Management and Technology Sialkot Campus conducted a workshop by students of MS Clinical Psychology under supervision of Miss Fariha Tariq at Army Special School ( little angels home) on the topic of unserstanding a child with special needs and importance of occupational therapy for special children. The teachers were guided about how we work and about how labelling does harm a child. They were guided to make a child functional rather then focussing on academic skills and also also focus on making the child independent. They were then guided about efficay of occupational therapy. Basically occupational therapy is that which helps children to achieve independence, meaning and satisfaction in all aspects of their lives. This therapy can be used with children who have intellectual disabilities, cerebral palsy, down syndrome, autism, learning problems, behavioral problems, developmental delays, birth defects and other chronic illnesses. Teachers were guided about the OT activities which can be taught to special children painting, art and craft work, drawing, embroidery, stitching, jewelry making, industrial work, card making, daily activities and social skills training. A very promising feedback was given by the teachers indicating that they now know new ways to work with a child having special needs.
